1. What is rolling piston compressor?

Rolling piston compressor, also known as rotor compressor or rolling rotor compressor, in the original eccentric wheel plus a set of rings. This type of compressor does not require a suction valve, and its most important feature is that it is suitable for variable speed operation, which makes it possible to improve system performance through frequency control. The components of a rolling piston compressor  include the cylinder, the inlet port and exhaust valve on the cylinder, rings in cylinders with planar motion, the slide and slide spring between the collar and the cylinder, the collar contains an eccentric press coupled to the shaft, the inner wall of the cylinder is blocked and sealed in both circumferential and radial directions to the collar, forming a rolling frictional contact between the collar and the eccentric press, this improves the sealing performance, lubrication performance and volume coefficient of rolling piston compressor, eliminates the need to formulate complex lubrication systems, and allows for effective use in compressed air systems without the need to add lubricant.

2. How does a piston compressor work?

What is the Working principle of rolling piston compressor? A rolling piston compressor consists of rolling pistons, gas cylinders, slide plates and springs on their backs, eccentric wheel shafts and caps on both ends of the cylinders, among other major accessories. The center of rotation of the eccentric wheel shaft coincides with the center of the cylinder bore, Thus, the outer surface of the rolling piston is tangent to the inner surface of the cylinder, and a crescent space is formed between the inner surface of the cylinder and the outer surface of the rolling piston, thus constituting the working chamber of the compressor.

3. Why should you get a piston compressor?

There are three clear advantages of rolling piston compressor:

① Low vibration, smooth operation, and low flow rate of gas in the inlet orifice and exhaust valve.

② Rolling piston compressors do not need to install intake valves, there is no suction and discharge muffler, so intake and discharge flow resistance  loss is small, high volumetric rate.

③ Fewer wearing parts, simple structure, small size and light weight.

4. What are the disadvantages of piston compressor?

① Since rolling piston compressors have some characteristic angles during operation, they adversely affect both compressor performance and operating life, so it is necessary to consider the characteristic angles to be as small as possible.

② Higher energy loss of gas at intake and exhaust orifices, exhaust valve installation needs to be careful.

③ The processing requirements of the parts are higher, the assembly is more complex, and the maintenance is difficult.

5. Application and development trend of piston compressor

Rolling piston compressors account for a large proportion of small hermetic refrigeration compressors  and are widely used in room air conditioners, refrigerators, and small commercial refrigeration equipment.

Improvement of the efficiency of the compression process, noise reduction, motor variable speed control, and the use of new refrigerants such as R410A and other related technical issues, etc., is the research direction of the rolling rotor compressor.
